As you may already know soil pH is the most determining factor when it comes to any vegetable plant growth and it’s overall yield. If you plant a vegetable in a soil which doesn’t meet it’s pH requirements it will lead to low production and even death of the plant.
As said above in this article we will be discussing about vegetable plant pH requirements only. Now most of you might be having this thought;
I am new to this field so how will I know all the vegetable plant soil pH requirements?
Don’t worry as I was also a fresh candidate in this field and through gradual experience I developed over the years I was able to succeed in the home gardening sector. Good news is that I am going to share that knowledge here.
From our experience and research we have tabulated a table with all the vegetable plants and their soil pH requirements.
Before going further lets get an idea on what is pH and how it’s going to affect a vegetable plant ultimately.
What is meant by soil pH?
Soil pH is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of the soil. A pH value is actually a measure of hydrogen ion concentration in the soil. For a decrease in pH value 1 there will be acidity increase by a factor of 10.
Low pH means the soil is highly acidic and there will be a higher number of hydrogen ion concentration. Most of the soils in the nature has a pH value between 3.5 and 10.
If you get higher rainfall the natural pH of soils typically ranges from 5 to 7 and in drier areas the range is between 6.5 to 9.

From the above illustration we will get idea on neutral pH, acidic and obviously the alkaline condition of soil and it’s resemblance to real world materials around you.
Most of the vegetable plant thrives between a pH of 6.0 to 7.0 but there are some which requires an acidic condition or alkaline soil for it’s proper growth. If the vegetables are planted in a non desired pH soil it will not be able to absorb all the micro nutrients it needed for it’s proper growth. So lets get a detailed study on pH requirement for all vegetable plants.
We have aggregated all the data to a table for easy access.
